Scriptures and Prayers for Pregnancy and Birth

Strength for Childbearing
Lily Bateman & Kristin Schuchmann
(all scriptures quoted are from the New International Version of the Bible)

Exodus 1:19
“The midwives answered Pharaoh, ‘Hebrew women (God-fearing women) are not like Egyptian women, they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.’”

Lord, thank you that I have vigor and strength to deliver this child you have given us!

Exodus 15:2
“The Lord is my strength and my song.  He had become my salvation.”

Lord, You are my song in the light and in the dark.  I will always sing to you, my Savior and my strength.

2 Samuel 22:33
“It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.”

Lord, You make the way of our baby’s delivery perfect.  You cause my body to be strong and work perfectly in order to glorify yourself in the delivery of our child.

Psalm 18:6
“In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried to God for help.  From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.”

Lord, I call to you for any help I will ever need, no matter what my situation.  I call on You first… and you hear my call.

Psalm 46:1-2
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear…”

Lord, You are the only ever-present one.  Thank you for being with us during labor and delivery.  I will not fear.

Psalm 139:14
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made…”

Lord, You made me.  You created me to carry and deliver children.  Thank you for making me in such a wonderful fashion.

Isaiah 26:3
“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”

Lord, You are my supernatural, perfect peace.  I know your peace and will know it during labor and delivery of this child.  My focus is on You and your goodness.

Isaiah 40:30-31
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”

Lord, You will renew my strength during delivery.  My strength will not wear out because it is from You and my hope is in You.

Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Because You, Lord, are staying with me throughout my labor and delivery, I have no reason to fear.

Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…”

Lord, thank you for not leaving us alone.  Thank you for being with our baby as it passes through the waters in my womb.

Isaiah 51:12
“I, even I, am He who comforts you.”

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for always being my comfort.  You always bring the comfort I need.

Philippians 4:13
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

Lord, I confess I can do this through You.  It is You who gives me strength.

Psalm 119:165
“Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.”

Proverbs 14:30
“A heart at peace gives life to the body.”

Isaiah 54:13
“…and great will be your children’s peace (shalom).”

Thank you, Lord for your promise of peace.  I receive the peace that is mine in you, Jesus.  Thank you that my baby’s shalom, peace and total well-being, is secure because of your faithfulness to your servants and to your Word.  May your peace rule and reign and give life during my labor and the delivery of this child you have given us.

I was searching for scriptures to support our decision to birth at home and trust God in it. We had 2 truly unnecessary C-sections and no longer do any of our hospitals offer VBAC, just repeat surgeries. We know this is not God’s will for us so we are stepping out in a big way to go against what is now standard in the US. Thank you so much for posting these. I am going to put them with others I come across as our birth is impending. We will be 36 weeks in 2 days and I may record the scriptures and affirmations to listen to as well as post them where I can see them. We are prepared physically, birth tub, sterile supplies, doula lined up, midwife support team, home birth kit… now we wrap up our preparations with some final prayer support and some healing I am feeling is needed and inevitable. Forgiveness might be part of it, disappointment, etc. I am ready to break through it and welcome this baby shortly. Thank you again, I think it is time for me to have some alone time. Well, baby is here too… good for her also. 🙂

I would like prayer for my unborn baby. I am 30 weeks pregnant and have been on medication throughout my pregnancy. I pray that the meds have not harmed my baby in any way. Within the next couple of weeks my OB will start weaning me off all medication in preparation for my baby’s birth. I ask all prayer warriors to join me in prayer as I go through the weaning stage and that I deliver a healthy baby girl. I want nothing more but for her to be perfect as I have done nothing but worry for the last 7 months. I pray that not only will she be perfectly healthy but that she will have a loving heart that will love the Lord all the days of her life. Thank you. Amy

I’m about a month pregnant and have been seeing some blood since last night, though has stopped now. I believe that as Christians,we walk by faith and not by sight. I strongly have faith in what God has done in me,knowing that all He does is good and when He starts a thing,He surely accomplishes it! Please agree with me that whatever is the situation right now,I will definitely have my son and he will live to accomplish every plan and purpose of God for his life,Amen!

All praise to God. This site has helped me through the birth of our two yr old. And I’m 8weeks plus now. I need some real prayer warriors to stand for me and with me. I’m speaking life everyday. After two horrible miscarriages at 16+20 weeks. Each day brings.a.new challenge. I’m 36 and trying to.be stress free. Seems like the weight of the world is on me. I.pray and I believe. My body is really tired and the pains from all the pregnancies my two living children were delivered by c-section and of course I can feel it.all. My.mind can’t help but think about health and baby well being. I know nothing is impossible with Christ Jesus. I just need to have all things line up to.give me.some relief. I feel like I’m burden on my husband as I’m so independent but honestly don’t have the strength to do much at all. I also came near death.from.hemmorage in.the two miscarriages so I know this is on his mind as well. God told me.after last miscarriage.I would.have twins

This is an amazing site. Thanks for reaching out to mothers and mothers to be in need. My worries fade to nothing when i read people’s experiences with miscarriages and preterm births. And the scriptures have strengthened me further. I am 29 and almost 33weeks along with my second son. No major problems just the expected aches and pains and a bad financial situation and failing business. I pray for a safe delivery with no tears and a short labour period. First one was only 14hrs frm start to finish. I pray for better time this time around and a full time healthy baby. Please pray that our busines turns around for the best before baby Jason comes and the company that owes my husband money pay in time for the money to be of help to us. Need to do much needed shopping for baby and i. These money worries are really bringing us down. I pray for a peaceful colic free baby. God heard me the first time and i know he will do it again. Please pray for my friend who has been married a year and is looking for a baby, may her womb be blessed with twins. Amen!!!

    Hello everyone,

What a wonderful website. I pray to our Lord Jesus Christ that you are all blessed with wonderful, healthy children.

I ask that you pray for my wife and I. We are very early in our first pregnancy, and I am very anxious and hoping that everything will be okay. I have read some of the heartbreaking stories about miscarriage on this website. You are all very strong to share your stories and I thank you all for doing so. Others can find strength in those of you who have suffered such a tragic loss and have continued on with prayer. You are truly God’s angels, and I pray to God to please bless you all with healthy children.

Please pray for us that we will have a successful pregnancy and a safe delivery of a healthy child. That is all we want. Thanks again to all of you for taking the time to post and to pray. Reading all of these posts gives me strength when I feel worried. It is nice to know that we are all pulling for eachother. I know that God has a plan for all of us, and I pray that he blesses us all and answers our all of our prayers.

Hello! My husband and I will be expecting our first child next month. We have decided to name him Judah. On yesterday my doctor informed me that because I had surgery on my spine when I was a child, they would not administer medication in my back only through an iv. I have confessed these scriptures over our lives and my babys life and will contiue to do so. We ask for prayer that God will strengthen us to deliver a natural birth and to birth forth many more blessings into the world. We will not fear not be dismayed because we know that God is with us.

      Patrice,
Do you have a doula? I think you would love the care a doula gives during labor and birth. She comes with many skills to help you be as comfortable as possible during labor. IV pain medication carries risks and having a doula can help you avoid those risks. Let me know if you need a recommendation for a doula in your area. I have connections in many places. You and your baby are in my prayers.
      Blessings,

Patrice, if you are comfortable sharing your city, I may know a good doula near you; or, if you do not want to give out personal info on the web (completely understandable), you can check out http://www.DoulaMatch.net to find a doula in your area. I, of course, recommend Charis Certified Doulas as the most thoroughly trained and skilled doulas you will find, but if there is not a Charis doula near you, I’m sure there is another who will serve you well. To learn more about what a doula does, check out http://charischildbirth.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10&Itemid=35

I thank God for this site. I believe my precious friend the Holy spirit led me here today for a reason. I have been married for almost a year and my husband and I both were excited in starting a family. My husband had to have his whole leg removed because of cancer and I also had been written off by doctors that I could not conceive because of scarring and adhesions from previous surgeries. I have one son 19 years from my previous marriage. I started getting prophetic dreams that I was going to have a son named Daniel and others had the same dreams as well. Because my husband lost a son from his previous marriage 11years old, one of the dreams specified that I was going to have a son for my husband to replace the one he had lost. God is so faithfull brethren, after several miscarriages that were heartbreaking He has finally remembered me and kept his promise. I am in my third month and I take medication daily for a medical condition I suffer from. Please I need your prayers that this pregnancy will reach full term with no complications. God richly bless u all

Rob, I can totally relate…at times it felt like an obsession at times. But then I preached a sermon and found myself saying “The areas we worry about most, show where we trust God the least”…OUCH!! And it came from my mouth! But I realized that anxiety is NOT of God, so it needs to be confronted with God’s thoughts and words. “It is not my will that there will be any barrenness or miscarriage among you in the land” That one was a real anchor for me. WHen the neg thoughts would come in, I would say OUT LOUD “NO…” and then repeat the scripture. I dunno man…it’s not easy. We’ll be praying too. Oh..ps..I posted on here 10 months ago reaching out. My healthy son turned a week old today. God IS good….it IS His will that HIS child will be healthy and God IS ABLE to do this. Examine those three points and see if you agree with them.. Blessings! Hi everyone 🙂 I am 38 weeks and due any day now….I’m already dilated to a 3 (told at my appointment last Tuesday) and my husband and I are so ready to welcome our baby boy! From about week 6 I have suffered terribly from hyperemesis gravidarum. I have literally been sick every single day for almost 8 months and it has been awful, however I know God has placed this baby in my womb and count this pregnancy as a blessing no matter how much satan tries to discourage and depress me through the sickness. I have an almost 3 year old daughter who is healthy and perfect and smart after a very similar pregnancy so I know God is able and has been with me every step of the way. I want to ask that you pray for our baby and the birth and delivery process as I am getting nervous and am very weak from all of the dehydration and exhaustion that comes with HG. I rebuke any complications in the name of Jesus Christ, not just for me, but for all of you as well. It’s so uplifting and encouraging to know there are others who believe in and know the wonderful power of the only true and living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! I claim health and progress and joy for us all and hope to hear of everyone’s good report in the future! I sincerely want to thank any of you who may whisper a prayer for me and my family. Your sister in Christ, HBD

I will be praying in agreement with you, Jen! Remember that a “due date” is not an “expiration date” and is just a guess within a 5-week window of time that you will likely deliver. It is a human’s best guess, but there are things we don’t know. God will not not forget to send you into labor at just the right time and your baby will surely be born on his or her birthday. 😉 Patience and trust are needed. Your body was designed by God to bear children and, with His help and in His timing, YOU CAN DO THIS!

This year I’ve gone past 37weeks weeks after been on bed rest since January 2013. Doctors can do their best and they get their best from God but God is the one in charge unltimately. So lets trust in God, He is our refuge and our fortress.

      Everlyn,
I am praying for you right now. I have spent time Kenya and am aware of how awful malaria can be, especially in pregnancy. Praying for God to protect you from future infection and to protect your baby from the potential negative effects of the medication you have likely been given. May God bless you with a healthy, happy, full term baby! Asante Mungu kwa zawadi ya mtoto afya!
      Blessings,

I am so grateful for this site. And thank you so much for the Scriptures and prayers you posted. Last year October I had given birth to a still born at 38 weeks, as this was my first pregnancy I was super excited. My husband and I prayed and believed with everything we had during our pregnancy. We both felt crushed when our baby wasn’t alive. Now I am pregnant again 16 weeks, I have been very fearful and ‘battling’ with the Lord. For the first time in a long while I am finally at peace. I am please asking for prayer warriors to help me as I continue to pray for my unborn child. I pray for a healthy pregnancy, safe delivery and a healthy baby. Thank you very much.

      Darline,
You and your baby are in my prayers. Remember, you are the one who chooses the route of delivery. You do not have to consent to surgery you do not feel is necessary.

I am Irene and i am 40 weeks and 1 day pregnant, baby should come anytime from now and no sign of it, alleluia conceiving naturally after 10 years and me and my husband couldn’t be happier, God is good, I have signed up to try vaginal birth after c section, with our first who is 10 years old I had a long bad labor and ended up with an immegency cecerian which was awful, and now this second pregnancy has been OK apart from being anxious as I over 40 weeks and the baby is not out yet is just in there moving and is freaking us out and my husband that history is repeating it self, please pray for me for a safe and easy labour as I am 38 years and categorised as having a high risk pregnancy but I have faith in my Lord that all will go well in His time. This site is very spiritual and encouraging and thank you so much for giving us parents so much hope.
